RCMP discover $1.9M in cash after stopping erratic driver on Hwy 1

Revelstoke RCMP likely received a bit more than they bargained for during a recent traffic stop along Highway 1.

On Sunday, Sept. 8, officers were alerted of an erratic driver about 30 kilometres east of Revelstoke.

Upon pulling over the vehicle, which bore licence plates from an eastern province, police detained the driver and the passenger under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

Officers subsequently began a search of the vehicle alongside the South East District Roving Traffic Unit that yielded approximately $1.9-million in Canadian cash currency.

According to RCMP, a serious collision may have been prevented as a result of the erratic driving tip.

The two men have since been released on a recognizance for a future court date.
