Mounties in the Lower Mainland are searching for two men who were caught on camera snatching a Yorkshire Terrier from its owners’ yard.
The 11-year-old pooch, named Lucy, tried its best to escape the dognapping, but was eventually snapped up and driven away.
Security footage shows the two men parking outside Lucy’s home – on Berwick Street in Burnaby – at about 2:40 pm on Monday.
The duo then chased after the dog in a foolish, Chaplinesque fashion, being outwitted several times, before finally snatching it.
An unsuspecting neighbour even offered to help the slow-witted thieves after they told her the dog belonged to them.
Early in the morning of the following day, however, a Mountie was handed a small dog by an unidentified man who said he’d found it while on his way to work.
Happily, it turned out to be Lucy – who the RCMP nicknamed “Tank.”
She has now been reunited with her owner, but police are still searching for the dognappers.
The RCMP provided the following description of the men:
The driver:

Between 5 ft 10 in and 6 ft
Medium/muscular build
Medium-length spiky black hair
Aviator sunglasses
Long-sleeved grey shirt
Dark pants
White running shoes
Roughly 25-30 years old
The passenger:
South Asian

Thin
Black sunglasses

They were driving a newer model Jaguar sedan, police added.
“We are very happy to see Lucy reunited with her family,” said Cpl. Mike Kalanj.
“However, this investigation is not over and we are seeking our community’s assistance in identifying these two individuals.”
