A unique piece of real estate is up for grabs on Vancouver Island.
The Merchant's Bank of Canada building located at 499 Wallace Street in Nanaimo has been listed for $1.2 million.
According to the listing, the building is a two-storey, “Free Renaissance-styled” heritage building located on a prominent corner in the downtown area.
However what makes it really unique is the person who designed it—Francis Rattenbury.
Rattenbury was also behind two iconic and historical buildings in downtown Victoria, the Empress Hotel, Ker Block and the BC Legislature.
The main floor of the Merchant’s Bank of Canada building is home to the popular Vault Cafe. The upstairs has seven rooms, two bathrooms and a kitchen and staff room with five large windows and five skylights.
The realtor says the upstairs area could be ideal for a medical, dental or law office.
