UPDATE: Hwy 97 reopened to alternating traffic near Cache Creek, travel advisory in effect

(UPDATE: 7:35 p.m.) - Hwy 97 has opened to single lane alternating traffic near Cache Creek to south of Clinton.

While the roadway has reopened to single lane alternating traffic, Drive BC says a travel advisory is in effect for the 34.3 km length of Hwy 97 between Stephenson Road and 26 Mile Frontage Road.

Due to heavy rainfall and the potential for debris flow, no stopping is allowed between the two roads while rain continues.

The rain may even cause a closure of the highway if deemed unsafe and Drive BC recommends travellers plan for that event.

(Original Story: 4:50 p.m.)

A portion of Hwy 97 is closed between Clinton and Cache Creek on Monday after a mudslide washed over a section of roadway.

Drive BC confirmed that Hwy 97 was closed about 17 km south of Clinton in a section between Loon Lake Road and Pavilion Forest Service Road, as shown below, due to the mudslide.

An assessment of the situation is in progress.

KamloopsBCNow will update this story as more information becomes available.
