Councillor Stephen Andrew announces he will run for Mayor of Victoria in 2022 election

Stephen Andrew, a councillor for the City of Victoria, has announced he will be running for mayor in the 2022 municipal election.

Andrew released a video statement this morning.

“People often tell me that they have lost trust in City Hall. Our job as councillors is to represent all citizens in our city, do what’s best for Victoria and lead with an open mind,” he said.

“That’s what I believed last year when I ran and you honoured me with a seat on council, and it is still what I believe. I promised to listen to all of the citizens of Victoria, and to make decisions based on the greater good — not just on special interests.”

Andrew also said that “the time is right” for his mayoral run, and he has the time and support to prepare for what he believes will be “the most important election in Victoria in years.”

Lisa Helps, the current Mayor of Victoria, was elected on November 15, 2014, and was sworn into office for her second term on November 1, 2018.

Prior to being elected as Mayor, she served as a Victoria City Councillor for one term, from 2011 to 2014.

Helps announced in October that she has no intentions to run in the 2022 municipal election.
