The Amazing Race Canada visits Victoria, Esquimalt and Sooke in latest episode

Last night’s episode of The Amazing Race Canada featured some familiar places in the Victoria area.

First, contestants had to find some driftwood animal sculptures hidden around the Malahat Skywalk, and then had to find replica props from Disney’s The Haunted Mansion inside Craigdarroch Castle.

Ken Bailey, General Manager at the Skywalk, told VictoriaNow that the entire team was excited to host the show and to watch the episode last night.

Bailey added that this is actually his second experience with the show, as it also visited the Sea to Sky Gondola when he was employed there.

He describes The Amazing Race as a “visual postcard” of Canada, as viewers get to see parts of the country they might not otherwise experience.

“The experience having them there was incredible,” Bailey said. “The energy they bring, the crew and the participants—they aren’t TV people or personalities, they’re just average people competing in this iconic show.”

He added that one of the most impressive parts of having them at the Skywalk was watching the camera crew keep up with the contestants as they ran up and down the structure and around the paths to complete the challenge.

“We’re very proud to be able to be involved in a show like that. For us, it's a proud moment going into our third season,” he said.

There were plenty more locations highlighted in the show that most Islanders will be familiar with.

While one team had to complete an extra mission at the Victoria Bug Zoo, the rest of the teams had a Face Off with the Canadian Scottish Regiment at the Colville Park Sports Field in Esquimalt before heading over to the beautiful town of Sooke for their final challenge at the harbour.

Afterwards, they had to head to the fourth pit stop with Sooke Mayor Maja Tait, which was located at Whiffin Spit—a 2.7 kilometre sandbar and a popular spot for locals and visitors to go for a picturesque walk.

The last team to check-in was eliminated, but you’ll have to watch the episode to find out who went home.

The race isn’t leaving quite yet, it seems. The Amazing Race teased the locations for the next episode saying that they’re staying on the Island.
