Making it onto Big Brother Canada as a house guest was a huge thrill for Kamloops resident John Luke Kieper, so having the whole experience come to a crashing halt over COVID-19 was a crushing blow. So any possibility of getting a second crack at it would be great news for him.
Kieper will never forget the moment when he and the other houseguests were told it was all over.
"They always tell you to expect the unexpected, " he said, "but nobody was expecting it all to just be cancelled." It was was a terrible sense of loss, Kieper recalls. "There were tears, I was heartbroken. It was so many peoples' dreams. Some people had applied eight different times to be on that show."
Softening the blow is the fact that he's been able to hold on to some great friendships that began on the show.
"I made some friends that I'm going to have for life," Kieper said. "For instance Michael Stubley, he's one of my friends now."
The sudden termination of the show came after a series of tumultuous events for a season that seemed to be ill-fated from the outset. One contestant walked off the show, and two others were removed from the show over behaviour concerns.
It's the nature of the show that producers have to keep their plans close to their vests, so the contestants are left wondering if there is any chance their group will be brought together for a re-start.
"As much as I would love to go back, which I would if I was asked," said Kieper, who works as a journalist at KamloopsNow, "it would probably be tough to get 12 of those people back in the house."
Still, he doesn't discount the possibility. "Production has done some pretty crazy things in the past and they've brought back people before," he added. "I don't think it's out of the question that we could be going back, but at this point, it's all speculation."
Rest assured though, if they ask Kieper for his opinion, he'd be packing his bags in a heartbeat. "I've got some unfinished business," he said. "I want that $100,000."
