BC wildfires by the numbers: Another 50,000 hectares burned in 24 hours

Nearly 50,000 more hectares of land in the province has burned in 24 hours.

In the BC government’s latest wildfire report, the total burned area is listed as 550,936 hectares.

In Sunday’s report, it was 501,676 hectares.

The latest statistics are accurate up to Sunday at 7 pm.

They show that since April 1, there have been 1,286 wildfires in the province.

The data list 245 fires active now.

Below are the latest figures.

Fires active by centre:

  • Cariboo: 36

  • Coastal: 13

  • Kamloops: 78

  • Northwest: 6

  • Prince George: 50

  • Southeast: 62

Resources deployed:

  • Firefighters and other personnel fighting the fires: 3,058

  • Out-of-province firefighters: 301

  • Helicopters and planes supporting ground crews: 202

Evacuations:

  • Evacuation orders: 63 (+2)

  • Evacuation alerts: 102 (+1)

  • Properties:

  • Number of properties on order: 4,186 (+1,023)

  • Number of properties on alert: 21,131 (+1,269)

Orders and alerts by Emergency Management BC region:

  • Vancouver Island Central Coast: 0 orders, 0 alerts

  • Northwest: 0 orders, 1 alert

  • Northeast: 1 order, 13 (+1) alerts

  • Central: 56 (+2) orders, 76 (-1) alerts

  • Southeast: 6 orders, 8 alerts

  • Southwest: 0 orders, 4 (+1) alerts
