One of Canada’s best young hockey players continues to add to her legacy after she became the National Women’s Under-18 Team's all-time points leader on Saturday.
Chloe Primerano of North Vancouver registered two assists in Canada’s semifinal match against Czechia to pass Caitlin Kraemer for the most points in the program's history with 36.
The defender also tied Marie-Philip Poulin for the most career points at the IIHF U18 Women’s World Championship with 26.
Czechia opened the scoring in Saturday’s match, but a strong second period by the Canadians put them ahead 3-1.
The Czechs brought the game within one goal in the final minute of the second period, but Canada got some insurance in the final frame to take the 4-2 win and set up a meeting with the US in Sunday’s gold medal match.
“Obviously with the records, I couldn’t have done it without my teammates, but I think a gold medal would mean a lot more,” said Primerano.
“It just means everything to get a chance to play against the US and you couldn’t have written a better story. We’ll just go out there, play as a team and play how we know how to play and hopefully, we can come out with the win.
Stryker Zablocki tallied a goal and an assist in the win over Czechia. Zablocki now has a tournament best 11 points.
The gold medal game is scheduled for 9 am PST Sunday.
