Canada’s Bianca Andreescu equals national record with top 5 ranking

Canada’s teenage tennis sensation Bianca Andreescu has quickly become one of the biggest names in women’s tennis.

While it was her recent win at the US Open that propelled the 19-year-old into the national spotlight, Andresscu’s recent performance in China has helped her tie the highest ever ranking achieved by a Canadian woman.

On Monday, the Women’s Tennis Association updated its rankings where Andresscu now sits fifth, tieing Eugenie Bouchard’s ranking held on October 2014.

Unfortunately, Andreescu had her remarkable 17-match winning streak come to an end in the quarter-finals at the China Open, however, the result was enough to catapult the Canadian into the top five.

The tough loss did hand the hands of the world's number three ranked woman's tennis player Naomi Osaka.

Osaka also went on to win the tournament.

The future remains bright for Andresscu, with her being the only teenager ranked inside the top 20.

The 19-year-old has also raked $6.2-million in prize money this season.
