Capacity at Rogers Centre will double to 30,000 ahead of Blue Jays final homestand

The Toronto Blue Jays are right in the midst of the playoff race thanks to a fantastic stretch of baseball over the past month and change.

With just nine games to go on the schedule, the team needs to win the majority if they want to secure one of the two wildcard spots in the American League.

After three more games in Minnesota against the Twins this weekend, the Blue Jays will return home to Rogers Centre in Toronto for the final six games of the season and they’ll be getting a major boost.

The club announced today their efforts to increase capacity at Rogers Centre for those vital games against the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles were successful.

“With just six home games remaining for the Blue Jays to clinch a postseason berth, we need fan support more than ever to create the (famous) Toronto loud home field advantage,” said a team statement.

“The club today announces that Rogers Centre capacity is increasing to 30,000 for the final regular season homestand and potential postseason games.”

Rogers Centre has had a capacity of 15,000 for Blue Jays games since the team moved back home to Toronto in late July.

Even the smaller crowd has given the Blue Jays a massive boost over the past two months, as their impressive home record at Rogers Centre has helped them back into the playoff race.

If they want to be playing postseason ball games in October, they’ll need to find another boost from the now-larger home crowd.
