Friday’s win marked the third time in NHL history a team forced a game seven after being down 3-0 in the final and the first instance since the Detroit Red Wings did so in 1945.
The Oilers opened the scoring in game six with a goal off the stick of Warren Foegele in the first period.
Edmonton maintained their lead and received a cushion 46 seconds into the second frame when Adam Henrique scored his fourth goal of the postseason.
Florida thought they cut the lead in half shortly after, but the goal was called off for being offside.
Edmonton continued with their momentum, adding a goal in the final minutes of the middle frame.
The Panthers were finally able to find the back of the net early in the third period, but it was not enough as the Oilers added a pair of empty-net scores to seal the win.

The Oilers can become the second team in NHL history to overcome a 3-0 deficit in the final and win it all, joining the 1942 Toronto Maple Leafs.
Monday’s match is scheduled for 5 pm PDT.
