Carney's government, meanwhile, quietly announced on Friday that $100 million of Canadian taxpayers' cash will be going to the West Bank and Gaza Strip via the UN and Red Cross. It brings the total sum of taxpayer cash the Liberals have given to Palestine to $500 million.

A deal has been agreed between Iran and the US to end hostilities between the two countries and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Pakistan, the mediator in the deal, said a formal agreement will be signed on Friday in Switzerland. Iran has framed the deal as a victory for the Islamic Republic, while Donald Trump said it was a "Great Deal [that] will bring Peace and Security to the whole Region."

Five children have died in a catastrophic crash near Guelph in Ontario. “Tragically, five children lost their lives. I can confirm that the victims are all related," Ontario Provincial Police said, adding that the deaths represent an "unimaginable loss." The children – four girls and one boy – were aged between four and 12.

Two men have been found guilty of arson attacks on property owned by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The BBC, meanwhile, has published an investigation into the Ukrainian perpetrators. It found that the men were suborned by operatives working for, or alongside, the Russian state with the objective of sowing discord in the UK, with their other activities including posting both anti-Islamic and pro-Islamic content.
