Fall is closely creeping in and the weather has become a little cooler, however, there is still time to get in a few quick overnight hikes before the rainfall reaches its threshold.
We have curated a list of what we believe are the best hikes with the most rewarding views to wake up to.
Located near Port Alberni on the way to Tofino, this is a rewarding yet not over extensive hike. You do not need to hike to the summit to get the best view here!
The lower lake is approximately 4 km away from the parking lot, but still requires a few scrambling bits and a pretty hefty incline.
You can camp right at the lake with the three peaks in clear view.
Reward yourself with a refreshing dip, or just marvel at the beauty above you. There is so much to see here.
Located in Strathcona Provincial Park, the distance to Landslide Lake is a stretch of 13 km, with the campground at the 8 km marker.
Feel free to set up your camp before heading up to the lake, releasing the heavyweight from your belongings. If you still have a bit of left in you after reaching Landslide Lake, with a few kilometres of uphill climbing you will come to a second lake, Iceberg Lake.
It is illegal to camp at both of the lakes, so make sure to keep all of your belongings at the campsite.
This is the perfect hike for those who would rather spend more time at the campground than climbing a mountain.
The campground is located a short drive away from the falls on Serene Lake.
This is for people who plan on doing more than one activity in Strathcona Provincial Park during their time and using Buttle Lake Campground as a base.
This 8.9 k.m. hike located in Strathcona Provincial Park is well maintained with wide boardwalks and pathways throughout the entire way.
There are many spots within the Forbidden Loop to camp along the way. Make sure to take some time to appreciate the Whiskey Jack birds in the area, hold your hand out in front of you still and they might even land on it.
Overall, the hike is relatively easy with only a light incline gain.
Also located in Strathcona Provincial Park is a 6 k.m. hike to Bedwell Lake. The hike consists of several spots with steep staircases that hang over a slope.
There are many switchbacks and bridge crossings but do not let that deter you from hiking the trail, it is well worth it. Camping is also permitted at Bedwell Lake.
If you feel like continuing on the journey, you can hike to Cream Lake, which is another 6 k.m. further and a 400 meter elevation gain. The views, however, are well, well worth it.
