Victoria Royals defenceman Anson McMaster achieved 100 career Western Hockey League games played on Saturday in a contest against the Seattle Thunderbirds.
The 19-year-old blueliner joined the Royals four games into the 2021-2022 season after spending the previous three seasons with the Kootenay/Winnipeg ICE, who selected him in the second round (23rd overall) of the 2017 WHL draft.
McMaster has certainly earned some frequent flyer miles in his career–now playing in his third city since entering the league–but has found a stable and supportive home here in Victoria:
“It has been a long ride for sure,” said McMaster “But coming to Victoria couldn’t have worked out better for me. Great coaching staff, great group of guys…I couldn’t be happier with where I am.”
The Siksika, AB native also acknowledged all those that helped and supported him throughout his career:
“I’d like to thank my parents, family, friends and loved ones.”said McMaster. “I can’t thank them enough for the sacrifices and determination they’ve provided for me up to this point. I couldn’t be more grateful.”
The 6’6” right-handed defenceman has recorded five points (one goal, four assists) in 20 games for Victoria this season and has registered 12 total points (two goals, 12 assists) in his career.
