The Victoria Highlanders of the semi-professional League1BC will begin their first campaign in League1BC this weekend as they travel to Vancouver to take on Whitecaps FC.
The Highlanders announced their intentions to join the newly formed league this past fall after its establishment in early 2021. Prior to this year, the team had participated in the USL League Two (formerly the Premier Development League) from 2009-2019 and in the Vancouver Island Soccer League in 2020-2021.
League1BC was established to provide a third tier of professional soccer in the province, aiming to fill the gap between the tier two Canadian Premier League and high level amateur soccer, featuring both men’s and women’s squads.
Victoria’s men’s and women’s teams will play a 12-game regular season schedule, beginning with a match this Sunday, May 22 against Whitecaps FC – which serves as a development team for the Major League Soccer team that shares the same name.
You can visit the Highlanders website for more information on the team, schedule and ticketing.
