A court decision has been handed down in connection to the illegal killing of a moose in the BC Interior more than three years ago.
Lower Mainland resident Wing Kam Lau pleaded guilty to the offence of hunting moose not within the open season, as well as failing to complete the compulsory report of the kill within 30 days.
The killing happened south of Fort Nelson on Sept. 1, 2022.

“The BC Conservation Officer Service (BCCOS) investigation began following complaints to the RAPP line regarding a partial bull moose carcass being found covered on Klua Lake road,” a BCCOS debrief noted.
“The investigation led to several charges being laid and a conviction through guilty plea being obtained in Fort Nelson Provincial Court.”
Lau’s sentence included a $6,998 fine payable to the Habitat Conservation Trust Foundation, a three-year ban from hunting anywhere in BC and forfeiture of all seized wildlife parts to the Crown.
The BCCOS thanked the public for reporting the crucial information to the RAPP line and the Northern Rockies RCMP for their prompt assistance to ensure the evidence was collected and preserved.
