Multiple signs have suddenly appeared at the Goldstream trestle where a Langford teen died earlier this month.
The signs read “there’s always hope,” and ask that anyone who is struggling consider calling the crisis line.
A post made in a public Facebook group said that the individual who had the signs made wanted to stay anonymous, but was part of a group that helped search for 16-year-old Andre Courtemanche.
“He heard people calling for barriers and or at least signs. Figured he would help out anyway he can,” the post said.
After being reported missing at the beginning of the month, Andre was located deceased by search crews on Jan. 9, 2021 in Goldstream Provincial Park.
A crowdfunding page set up for the teen’s family said that Andre had been suffering from depression and anxiety, which was exacerbated by the pandemic, and after he left his home on New Year’s Day he tragically took his own life.
“After fighting for two years to get Andre some help coping his parents received a call for the long waited appointment two days after their beloved son went missing,” said the GoFundMe page.
“Too little too late.”
The organizer of the funding initiative added that it’s time that something be done about the Goldstream Trestle, and part of the funds raised will go towards erecting barriers.
